Introduction...A Doric Renaissance

Background

My idea

How can the reintroduction of the Doric dialect through creative music composition and lyrical development foster linguistic and cultural engagement among children from Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire?

Join me on a musical journey with Babbities, Bairns 'n Birkies, where the heart of Doric beats in every song, rhyme, and story. My MA Final Project is a creative exploration of Doric, expressed through original songs, captivating rhymes and fun loving stories. This project aims to use the power of music to preserve and promote Doric linguistic heritage, ensuring it resonates with early years children. My vision is children across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire singing songs from this project whilst embracing the beauty and rhythm of Doric. With the support of The Scots Language Act 2025 (    ), we can ensure the Doric language flourishes, becoming a vibrant part of children's lives for generations to come. I want to provide engaging and accessible musical content with the hope that it captures hearts and minds whilst reigniting a passion for Doric, ensuring its survival for future generations.
